Why Some PDFs Cannot Be Cracked

- Even checking a trillion combinations per second would take longer than the age of the universe
What Makes Encryption Strong
1. Password Length
Each additional character in a password exponentially increases the number of possible combinations. A 12-character password using lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols has over 1022 possibilities.
2. Password Complexity
Passwords that use a mix of character types (letters, numbers, symbols) are much harder to crack than those using only one type.

3. Encryption Algorithm
Newer PDFs use stronger encryption:
- 40-bit RC4 (PDF 1.1-1.3): Weak, can be cracked relatively quickly
- 128-bit RC4 (PDF 1.4-1.5): Moderate security
- 128-bit AES (PDF 1.6): Strong security
- 256-bit AES (PDF 1.7+): Very strong security
4. Randomness
Random passwords that don't follow patterns or use dictionary words are exponentially harder to crack than predictable ones.

A PDF is effectively uncrackable when:
- The password is long (12+ characters)
- It uses a mix of character types
- It's not based on dictionary words or patterns
- It uses modern AES-256 encryption
- It's truly random
